Uros Floating Islands on Lake Titicaca
The tour begins from your hotel. We will pick you up at around 7:15 am, followed by a transfer to the main port of Puno. Here, our speedboat will be waiting, and both the captain and guide will welcome you on board to start your journey across Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world.
During the ride, your guide will share fascinating insights about the lake’s history, culture, and traditions. The first stop is at the Uros Floating Islands, located at 3,812 m (12,506 ft) above sea level. Here, you will meet a local Uros family who will share their way of life, including traditional fishing techniques for carachi and silverside fish, as well as the secrets of the totora reeds, the plant used to build their homes and islands. Today, the Uros community is made up of nearly 100 floating islands. After this enriching experience, we will continue our journey toward Taquile Island.
Taquile Island
From the Uros Islands, we will navigate for about 2 hours to reach Taquile Island, standing at 3,905 m (12,959 ft) above sea level. Upon arrival, we will enjoy a peaceful walk along its stone-paved paths, passing through scenic stone archways and admiring the island’s beautiful agricultural terraces.
At a central gathering place, our guide will introduce you to the local families of Taquile. Here, you will experience their music, traditions, and world-renowned textiles, recognized by UNESCO in 2006 as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
A native family will prepare a delicious lunch with fresh local ingredients. Afterward, you will have free time to relax, purchase authentic handicrafts, and enjoy breathtaking views of the lake.
To conclude our visit to Taquile, we will take a gentle walk down to the port, where our speedboat will be waiting to bring us back toward the Uros.
Lodge on the Uros Floating Islands
For the final part of this unforgettable adventure, our boat will drop you off at one of the floating lodges on the Uros Islands. Here, a host family will welcome you and guide you to your accommodation in the heart of Lake Titicaca. From your room, you will enjoy spectacular lake views, while also having the unique opportunity to interact with the native islanders and immerse yourself in their culture.
